George C. Branche, III, M.D.As an orthopaedic surgeon, George Branche draws on personal experience as both a tennis and basketball player. The fourth generation doctor in his family, he attended college at Princeton and medical school at Howard University. After a general surgery internship at Harlem Hospital in New York and an orthopaedic surgery residency at Howard University, Dr. Branche held several hospital and clinic positions before joining The Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic. The surgical aspect of his practice specializes in arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder. Dr. Branche specializes in sports medicine. He makes frequent presentations on sports medicine and arthroscopic shoulder surgery to physicians in the metropolitan area. He also conducts ongoing research on treatment of the shoulder and knee. Dr. Branche is honored to be the tournament physician for the Legg Mason Tennis Classic. The tournament is hosted annually in Washington, DC. In addition to treating both amateur and professional athletes, Dr. Branche is the physician for a number of high school athletic teams in the area. "It gives me a chance to provide some of these young people with a little guidance," says Dr. Branche. "I find that very rewarding." Dr. Branche is actively involved in many professional organizations. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the Society for Tennis Medicine and Science.
