Gerard A. Engh, M.D.Dr. Jerry Engh is one half of the team of brothers who have revolutionized orthopaedic implants for the hip and knee. After graduating from Davidson College, he attended medical school at the University of Virginia. Following an internship and residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Dr. Engh spent two years as a major in the Army Medical Corps. He then went to work at The Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic, which had been founded by his father, O. Anderson Engh. At The Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic, Dr. Engh has helped pioneer research and development of knee implants. With the collaboration of other physicians at The Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic, he has compiled an important data base for tracking the outcomes of hip and knee replacement surgery. According to Dr. Engh, "Because we have stayed close to our patients, and know them so well, our data base has proven to be extremely useful. It has helped thousands of people to lead more active, fully functioning lives." Dr. Jerry Engh is past President of the Knee Society, Director of Knee Research, and the President of the Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute. He is also the Co-Founder and chairman of the Board for Alexandria Research Technologies. He maintains a keen interest in implant technology and innovative new options for Joint Replacement surgery.
